Ingredients

  • 1 lean thin cut beef sirloin steak (155g), cut into thin strips
  • Spray oil
  • 6 tablespoons cornflour
  • 2 teaspoons Chinese 5 spice powder
  • 2 tablespoons sweet chilli sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 teaspoons garlic and ginger purée or paste
  • 1 x 320g bag fresh mixed stir-fry vegetables of your choice
  • To garnish:

  • Toasted sesame seeds, optional
  • Fresh red chilli slices, optional
  • To serve:

  • Cooked steamed rice

Method

  1. Put the beef in a large mixing bowl. Add cornflour and Chinese 5 spice powder. If required, season with salt and pepper, Add the beef strips and toss to coat well in the cornflour mix.
  2. Preheat the air fryer to 200ºC for a few minutes and spray the air fryer basket generously with the spray oil.
  3. Lay the beef strips evenly onto the base of the basket. Do not overload the basket. Spray the surface of the beef strips with the spray oil until the cornflour coating disappears completely.
  4. Cook the beef for 6-7 minutes, remove the air fryer basket and turn the beef strips individually over on the other side. Return to the air fryer and cook for a further 6-7 minutes, until crispy and cooked through.
  5. Meanwhile, spray a large non-stick pan or wok with oil and heat under moderate heat until hot. Add the garlic and ginger paste and cook for 2-3 seconds then add the vegetables and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes tossing frequently until the vegetables are cooked, but with a bite.
  6. Remove the crispy beef from the air fryer and toss in the sauce to coat well.
  7. Garnish the beef with the optional sesame seeds or chilli and serve with the stir-fry vegetables and the rice.
